THE administration of Governor, Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, from January to April 2021, despite the effects of COVID-19, has recruited four thousand two hundred and seventeen (4,217) workers.
Also, as part of the benevolent disposition of his administration, has lifted the embargo and approved the promotion of 213 Officers who are the first Officers recommended for promotion from G.L. 13 and above.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari gave the hints while addressing workers at a symposium organized by Labour union, State branch in Katsina.
According to Masari “May Day celebration, the event
which was not celebrated last year due to lock down and sit at home order as a result of COVID-19 Pandemic. Therefore, the
choice of the theme of the celebration for this year “COVID-19 Pandemic, Social and Economic Crises Challenges for Jobs, Social Protection and People Welfare” is apt and timely towards addressing socio-economic and political effect of the Pandemic, nationally and globally and indeed narrowing the
consequences for to micro level of managing workers and their welfare”.
The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Service, says, despite the negative impact of the Pandemic to the National Economy, Katrina State is able to sustain its obligations in providing services to people and as well meeting the demands of workers in the State.
He therefore highlighted some projects accrued to workers in the State to include, “Owner-Occupier Housing Scheme: Government has identified Five hundred and three (503) of the State Houses accommodating serving Civil Servants and those
that retired and approved the sale of the houses to them at subsidized and affordable rates. In addition, Government presently constructing Low-Cost Houses under the State
Housing Authority to reduce accommodation problems of workers. The government has also entered into partnership with some private developers through public private partnership with a view to providing affordable Houses to workers”.
He noted that, the Government of Katsina state has sustained Training and Re-training of Staff both long term and short term as at April 2021, the total sum of N333,832,705.03 was expended for the training of 2,456 staff.
“Even after resumption’fer the lockdown in the year
2020 N79,300,000.00 was disbursed to 825 No.
beneficiaries as refurbishing loan, cumulatively, the sum
of N450,630,000.00 has been disbursed as refurbishing loan to 4,979 workers from 2017 to date.
“Medical Assistance to civil Servants in the State
Government has remained committed in assisting workers and their families for both local and foreign medical treatments”.
Governor of Katsina State pointed out that Government is making effort in sustaining payment of
monthly pension to Pensioners and clearing backlog of gratuities.
“To this end in the year 2020, 1116 No. retirees
of July – December 2018 were screened by the Standing Committee and payment of the total sum of
N2,680,326,473.68 was approved to the beneficiaries in both the State, LGAs/LGEA. The payment has since
commenced. The total Gratuity paid by the Government from 2015 to date for both State and Local Government/LGEA retirees is N28,036,125,298.06.
Masari used the day occasion to seek for
cooperation of all workers in the State to understand the
financial situation in the Country and the State in particular to assist the Government in diversifying its sources of income.
He congratulates all workers
of Katsina State for celebrating 2021 May Day and urged them to be steadfast, committed and dedicated in order to move the State forward.
Representatives of labour unions in the State, thanked Katsina government for always creating an enabling environment for workers to thrive.
They lamented the negative utterances by the Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed El-rufai on workers hence in solidarity, workers In the country would converge on Kaduna State soon to press home their demand.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa urged workers to look beyond salary to better their lots.
