Gunmen attack Police Station, kill 3 policemen in Kogi

UNKNOWN gunmen in the early hours of Saturday attacked Ogaminana Police Station in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State killing three police officers on duty.

Eye-witness accounts in Ogaminana said the gunmen numbering about six attacked the station at about 2am on Saturday killing the three police officers on duty.

According to them, the gunmen attacked the station from different directions with sporadic gunshots, causing panic around the town.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Kogi state command, Williams Aya, Superintendent of Police confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja.

Aya said that the Command, on Saturday received a report of the “unfortunate incident at Adavi Police Division where some hoodlums attacked the station from the opposite direction shooting sporadically.”

He said that they were however, repelled by the men and officers on duty assisted by operatives of the Quick Response Unit who were on special operations in the Local Government.

The Command’s image maker however, noted that the Police Command lost three of its officers during the gun duel with the hoodlums who later fled with gunshot wounds.

He said that the hoodlums could not gain access into the station.

“The Commissioner of Police in the state Command, CP Edward Egbuka, immediately deployed a team of tactical operatives to the area and restored normalcy”, he said.

Aya added that the Police were trailing the hoodlums with a view to apprehending and bringing them to book.

“The Commissioner of Police use this medium to call on the people of Adavi and the adjoining communities to be on the lookout and report anybody seen with bullet wounds to the Police or any other Security Forces nearest to them”, he said.

He however added that the Commissioner of Police had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Investigations), to commence investigation into the incident immediately.
