Adamawa Assembly declares Kwada’s seat vacant for defecting to APC

Adamawa State House of Assembly, on Wednesday declared the seat of the member representing Michika constituency, Hon. Ayuba Kwada vacant.

Kwada’s seat was declared vacant by the Speaker of the Assembly, Aminu Iya-Abbas on Wednesday following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speaker, accordingly, urged the Clerk of the House to communicate the outcome to relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Deputy speaker of the Assembly, Pwamwakeino McKondo had raised an observation on constitutional matters on the floor, saying Kwada had defected to the APC, contrary to section 109 of the Constitution.

Addressing journalists after the action, House Committee Chairman on Information, Japhet Kefas who is also the member representing Gombi Constituency, said Kwada’s defection has contravened section 109 of the constitution.
