Bauchi Gov imposes curfew in Gudun as communal clash claims 3 lives

Twenty-four hours curfew has been imposed on the Gudum Hausawa community, a suburb of the Bauchi metropolis following the killing of 3 people during a communal clash.

Governor Bala Mohammed who visited the community Wednesday evening to commiserate with the victims directed with immediate effect, the enforcement of a 24hrs curfew in Gudum community until peace is restored in the area.

He said that security agencies have arrested perpetrators of the community clashes and assured that his administration will not relent in providing lasting peace and security, not only in the area, but across all the communities in the state.

He directed security agencies to conduct intensive surveillance in order to identify the root causes of the incident and condemned the burning of houses and other properties by unsuspected hoodlums.

“I have come here to commiserate with my brothers and sisters over the ugly incident that happened in this area and some of the perpetrators were arrested and we are in the process of prosecuting them as we are not ready to tolerate such ugly Act. We are going to support those whose houses were burnt and the families of those who lost their lives with palliatives to cushion the effect of the incident”, he said.

Gov Bala therefore directed that a police outfit be established in the area in a move to enforce security.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda assured that the security agencies are in top gear to arrest the situation, promising to work on the directives of the state government for the total restoration of peace in the community.
