NDE train and empower unemployed women in Osun

National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has reiterated its commitment to continue to provide employment opportunities for Nigerian Women to enable them to become self-reliant and contribute to the nation’s economy.

The Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, stated this in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, while speaking at the commencement of a 5 day training for 130 selected unemployed women in Osun State.

Fikpo who was represented by the NDE State Coordinator in Osun state, Mr. Julius Fakunle, explained that the objectives of the programme was to train the participants in the art of stone bead making, perfumery, event decorations, Gele Tying and Make up, including Tie and Dye production.

According to him, these skill sets are emergent and trending amongst women across the federation in the quest for income generation, self-reliance and value addition to the living standard of the family.

The NDE boss noted with delight that Nigerian Women are no longer faced with negative tendencies, such as, gender discrimination, social exclusion, that used to limit their opportunities and undermine their self-esteem.

Mallam Fikpo emphasized that the establishment of the Directorate, has been of tremendous benefits to the Nation, most especially, the unemployed persons in the country, because the NDE is in tune with the dynamics of employment creation and it’s programmes are constantly being fine tuned in line with the current challenges.

He charged the participants to take the training seriously, while encouraging 85% attendance, proper and comprehensive documentation, while also informing them that they would be offered Empowerment soft loan of N25, 000 each to commence the skills practice after the completion of the training programme.
