Police launch investigation into bomb explosion in Kogi

Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police on Thursday said it has launched a full investigation into the Wednesday night explosion at a drinking joint in Kabba, which claimed a life and injured 12 persons.

In a release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Williams Ovye Aya (SP), the Police confirmed the explosion, but said it is yet to ascertain the cause.

“We have received a report of an explosion at a drinking joint, Labi beer parlour Lewu junction, Kabba suspected to be Gas Explosion”, Aya said.

He went further to say that the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Edward Egbuka had immediately deployed personnel to the area to ascertain the report and restore peace.

According to him, the teams from Police Mobile Force, Quick Response Unit as well as conventional Officers were deployed to the scene along with military personnel to control access and evacuate the victims to Hospital.

Aya confirmed that one Aisha who was injured by the explosion and evacuated to the hospital with others, later died while others are still receiving treatment.

He said that the CP had directed DCP (Investigation) to commence investigation into the incident along with the personnel of the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) to unravel the cause of the explosion.

The CP, he said, has also urged members of the public to go about their lawful business while reiterating the Command’s level of commitment in synergy with other security agencies in ensuring safety of lives and property.
