There is palpable fear in some local government areas in Anambra state especially the nine local government districts which are said to have been listed to be attacked soon by suspected gunmen.

This would be in reaction to the actions of the Security operatives in the state who have recently neutralized four persons enforcing sit-at-home on residents Tuesday in Ogidi, Idemili North local government area in the State.

The local government areas allegedly listed to be attacked by the hoodlums are, Ihiala, Aguata, Nnewi South, Awka North, Awka South, Idemili North, Idemili South, Orumba South, Orumba North and Anambra East.

It was gathered that the information was circulated through leaflets in some strategic locations which was received by one of the commercial drivers, warning security operatives to get ready for action in ‘Biafra Land’.

According to the note, “these local government areas should wait for us soon.”

“We are warning our dear Professor that it is time for action and not time to speak big grammar and talking.

“All the security men occupying “Biafra land” should get ready for action.

“Go and tell the Zoo President to release our oga, Onyendu, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or face continuous war- FINAL WARNING.”

Reacting to this, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu told Nigerian Pilot that, “For us, the rumour is a call for more work. We shall leave no stone unturned to make sure that law and order is maintained in the state.

“If you have been following the security concern here in Anambra, you will understand that the police and security agencies are firm.

“Every day, we involve new strategies to address security concerns/threats as they emerge. Our primary duty is to protect lives and properties”, he stated.

Also responding to the threat, the state government asked residents of the state to remain calm, noting that the state Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo is doing everything possible to restore peace in the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime described the letter as fictitious, urging the people of the state to remain calm and law-abiding as the government would soon restore normalcy.

“That will be a fictitious letter of course. You know they have been attacking some local governments to frighten people.

“But there is a government in place and the state government will ensure that peace and order are restored. We cannot allow people to hold the state and law -abiding citizens to ransom.

“Government has a responsibility to enforce law and order and that is what Governor Chukwuma Soludo is doing. But we ask our people not to take the law into their hands as the government will handle the situation according to the provisions of the law”, he added.
