Adamawa: Binani becomes first female Governoship candidate, defeats Ribadu, Bindo, 3 other male aspirants

Senator Aishatu Binani has in a historic defeat of five men, emerged victorious at the just concluded governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.

With this victory, Binani has become the first woman to win the governorship nomination of a major political party in the state.

Binani a serving senator, representing Adamawa Central, defeated a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)malam Nuhu Ribadu to clinch the coveted APC party ticket.

Others in the contest were the immediate past governor of the state, mohammadu umaru Jibrilla Bindow, aa sarving member of the House of Representatives ,Abdulrazak Namdas, Wafari Theman and Umar Mustapha Utumba.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Gambo Lawan said Binani scored 430 votes to defeat her closest rival, Nuju Ribadu, who got 288 votes.

While the former governor,mohammadu umaru  Bindow had 103 votes to clinch the third position.

The election which started at about 11:30 pm on Thursday was concluded at about 8:44 on Friday morning.

Scores of each Aspirant is as follows

Aisha Binani: 430

Nuhu Ribadu: 288

Jibrilla Bindo: 103

Abdulrazak Namdas: 94

Umar Mustapha: 39

Wafari Theman: 21

Before  declaering the result by the primaries committee chairman ,all the Aspirant agents had earlier promise to join hand with winner Aisha Binani to wrest power from the PDP in 2023.
