House of Reps aspirant escapes assassins’ ambush in Niger

House of Representatives aspirant for Lapai/Agaie Federal Constituency on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi narrowly escaped ambush by suspected assassins around Kutriko community in Agaie Local government area of Niger state.

It was learnt that suspected assassins ambushed him and his supporters in the area while coming back from Agaie about 2am yesterday; where the party’s primary of the federal constituency was earlier cancelled for alleged irregularities.

The officials of the party had announced the shifting of the primary after violence and some irregularities were noticed as indicated by the police report.

Consequently, the Aspirant ; a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Abdulkadir Kure, decided to take the short cut to link Minna but was ambushed by some gunmen.

It was learnt that the men carried dangerous weapons but Alhaji Mahmud was able to escape with some of his supporters through the bush path.

A supporter of the aspirant who was in retinue, Saidu Aliyu confirmed that “some of us left behind were attacked and injured; we had to rush some people to hospital.”

He said five party officials who were at Agaie to conduct the primary were held hostage and were forced to sign the result sheet in favour of the suspected assassins’ aspirant.
