There is a thick pall of confusion covering the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, few hours to its presidential Convention as northern governors and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party are in disagreement with the national Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, over his reported choice of Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as consensus Candidate.

It was gathered that Adamu, had on Monday announced the choice of Lawan at a meeting of the NWC held at the party’s national Secretariat.

But sources told Nigerian Pilot that such decision however did not go down well with members of the NWC who rebuffed the national Chairman.

One of the members of the NWC and national vice chairman Northeast, Salihu Lukman, told our correspondent that such decision was never taken at the meeting.

Also, it was further gathered that governors of the party from northern region had met with Buhari and insisted on their earlier position that the next president must come from the southern part of Nigeria.

Our correspondent gathered that the governors meeting with the president was not conclusive as he directed them to go reconcile with the NWC.

Another member of the NWC who spoke on condition of anonymity said Adamu’s choice of Lawan was his personal opinion and not that of the NWC or the party.

Adamu’s adoption of Lawan as consensus candidate is against the position of 11 APC northern governors who endorsed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Other Presidential aspirants which include Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Engr. David Umahi and others will be allowed to contest the primary election at the convention scheduled to hold tomorrow Tuesday, May 7, 2022 at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

According to report, the NWC members, insisted other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete

Adamu told the National Working Committee that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Buhari.
