Alleged blasphemy: Abuja Police arrest 15 suspects for killing vigilante

Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has announced the arrest of some suspects linked to the killing and burning of a vigilante member for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammed.

DSP Josephine Adeh, Public Relations Officer, in a statement in Abuja on Monday announced the arrest and detention of the suspects.

“The FCT Police Command has arrested 15 suspects in connection with the violence and killing of the late Ahmad Usman, a member of a vigilante group, in the Lugbe Area of the FCT on June 4, 2022.

“The arrest of the suspects follows ongoing investigations into the unfortunate incident and circumstances that led to the killing of the 30-year-old Usman,” the police said.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Babaji Sunday also assured that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book.

Babaji, while calling for calm said, “We assure that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book. We, therefore, reiterate that justice would be served in the matter.”

The suspects were said to have burnt his body using petrol and a disused car tyre.

He said, “The man is a Muslim in Lugbe. He had been accused of being fond of insulting the prophet, but today action was taken against him.”
