Chiefs, women and youths of Igbomotoru communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have raised the alarm over alleged killings, ongoing siege and dehumanization in the community by armed military personnel and their cohorts believably acting on the directives of the Nigerian Oil Company Limited.

The community also slammed a surveillance company handling the protection of pipeline in the ongoing unabated crisis.

Speaking during a press briefing in Yenagoa, over the weekend, the paramount ruler, HRH king Aseimiegha Ofongo called on the Bayelsa State Government, the Federal Government and the international community to urgently intervene and bring under control the ongoing siege and persistent dehumanization in Igbomotoru 1 and 2 communities being perpetuated by armed military personnel and their cohorts.

The community lamented the slow response to their earlier letters written to the organs of government over the worsened acts of siege and dehumanization by the armed military men.

They said, “While we do not have any quarrels with military personnel providing security in any part of Nigeria, including our Igbomotoru 1 and 2 communities, it is not in dispute that they are expected to keep to their standard code of conduct and maintain international best practices.”

“Different interpretations are being given to these actions which have the capability of igniting inter-communal crises, a situation we do not want to occur”, they lamented.
