Police foil ‘suspected’ bomb attack on Ministries, SSG office in Kogi

Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday foiled a suspected bomb attack on the premises of three powerful ministries and the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the detonation of the suspicious object, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka said the command was yet to ascertain what it really was.

Egbuka who confirmed the explosion said, “We were informed of a package that looked like a bomb, left on the premises.

“I immediately deployed the Bomb Disposal Unit there to assess the object. The object was immediately blown up.

“The explosion you heard was the handiwork of our bomb disposing unit in their effort to blow up the object”, he said.

Egbuka said investigation has commenced to ascertain what the object was.

The Nigerian Pilot reports that A loud explosion was heard in the premises of the Ministry which also houses the office of the Secretary to Kogi State Government (SSG); Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Other Ministries in the premises are those of Women Affairs and Social Development; Land and Survey and directly opposite the newly constructed President Muhammadu Buhari Event Center.

Detonation of the yet to be identified object caused an explosion which resulted in an uproar scaring many people around the area to scamper for safety.
