Oyo PDP conducts primary for Assembly bye-election in Ibadan

Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has conducted primary for the forthcoming bye-election in the State.

The primary became necessary in view of the death of one of the members of the State House of Assembly.

One of the members of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusegun Popoola, who was representing Ibadan South East constituency 11, died last month.

During the primary which was held at the weekend, Mr Yinka Omikunle emerged as the candidate of the party.

Deputy National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja announced the result of the primary election.

He added that the primary election was conducted in line with the electoral guidelines.

He said that, “The results of the primary held today delivered Hon. Yinka Omikunle as our party’s standard bearer for the rerun election.

“In line with the INEC guidelines to conduct a rerun election within the stipulated 90 days to fill vacant elective offices, today, our great party, PDP organized a primary election to pick our candidate to replace our departed former representative in constituency II, Ibadan South East Local Government in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Late Hon. Segun Popoola, who died some weeks back after a protracted illness.”
