House of Representatives Committee on Finance Wednesday resolved to commence a powered Status Inquiry into the finances of some government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs to get to the roots of their revenue generation and expenditure for better performance.

The Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Rep Saidu Abdullahi who chaired the resumed hearing of 2023-2025 MTEF stated this at the National Assembly.

Abdullahi expressed dissatisfaction with the presentations of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, News Agency of Nigeria, National Office for Technology Acquisition and promotion as well as the Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority, NEPZA.

According to the Deputy Chairman, the committee will work with the agencies and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure that all agencies comply with financial acts on remittances to the Federation Account.

He added that going by the experience of the committee since the commencement of the exercise, it was evident that even fully-funded government agencies dip their hands into their internally generated revenue at will and fall short of the required percentage expected to be paid into the federation account.

“I wonder where Chief Executives of MDAs that indulge in such unwholesome practices derive their authority from, he said adding that the practice amount to gross financial infraction

The Head, Monitoring and Execution, Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr Bello Gulmare stated that all agencies were duly informed of their remittances and as such, know their financial standing at any required period.
