The Ibaka based Forward Operation, FOB, of the Nigerian Navy Ibaka has arrested three suspects with 4,750 litres of products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Akwa Ibom.

Base Operating Officer Lt. Cdr Daniel Onyemaeze disclosed this while handing over the suspects to Candidi Odo, the Superintendent Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense and Corps (NSCDC) at Ibaka on Thursday.

Onyemaeze who said the suspects were nabbed along Effiat waterways in Mbo Local Council explained that the products seized include 19 drums of products suspected to be PMS containing 250 litres in each drum and one wooden boat.

The suspects and the exhibits he said are been handed over to the prosecuting agency, NSCDC for further investigations and actions.

“This morning the FOB Ibaka is handing over 19 drums of suspected product to be PMS to NSCDC. They were intercepted by our personnel in FOB Ibaka during our routine patrol at water ways.

“This is in line with the mandate of Chief of Naval Staff to curtail illegal activities and criminal activities in the water ways,” Onyemaeze cautioned.

He warned perpetrators of illegal bunkering, oil theft and other criminal activities to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full wrath of the law.

Odo, while receiving the suspects and exhibits lauded the synergy between the two organisations and commended the efforts of the Navy to reducing smuggling in the water ways

“We expressed our gratitude to the Nigerian Navy, FOB Ibaka for the correlation that has existed between Navy and NSCDC.

“I enjoin the Navy to continue in their good work and we promised them that we will never fail in carrying out further investigations and persecution of the culprits”, he added.
