RTEAN harps on road safety rules

The Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Bayelsa state chapter, Chief Oyinkuro Erebor has stated that motorists, commercial tricycle drivers and other road users across the state should always endeavor to attach significant importance to road safety rules as the best way to avoid road mishaps

Chief Oyinkuro Erebor who stated this on the occasion marking his first year anniversary as Chairman of RTEAN in the state at the Earnest Ikoli press Centre further reiterated that his association is always ready to partner with the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, (NUJ) Bayelsa state council on the need to sensitize the general public.

He disclosed that RTEAN which is listed under Senior Staff/Employers’ Association was given specific mandates in its approved constitution as the umbrella body of all owners vehicle operating in Nigeria for commercial purposes, stressing that RTEAN is therefore saddled with the responsibility of organizing periodic road safety campaigns.

According to him, it is aimed at educating road transporters, particularly commercial drivers on thier civic responsibilities to the travelling masses and observing existing traffic regulations.

The RTEAN Chairman emphasized that the association has absolute control and authority over all motor park activities all over the country to facilitate orderliness and ensure complete welfare of passengers and the safety of thier luggages, adding that the association also works for total elimination of touting at the motor parks in the country.

He hinted that he is using the occasion of the first anniversary in office to mobilize members of RTEAN to always be on ground to clear traffic logjams in the state to allow free flow of traffic in line with the mandate establishing the association.

He noted that RTEAN is fostering a formidable synergy with NUJ as a calculated way of continuous sensitization of the motoring public on the activities of RTEAN across the state.

The one year anniversary activities include a novelty football match between NUJ and RTEAN which ended in 5-4 in favour of RTEAN, interactive session with Journalists and a road walk of RTEAN members to enable them to be physically fit while carrying out thier duties in the state.
