As a panacea to curb the perennial brain drain caused by the massive migration of young medical doctors seeking greener pastures abroad, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan has advised the Nigerian Medical Associations, NMA to ensure that young resident doctors are counselled against the idea.

Dr Yemi-Esan who stated this during a recent courtesy visit by the NMA to her office in Abuja, stressed that they need to be reminded that it is not a bed of roses overseas.

She expressed that the rate at which resident doctors travel abroad to practice without serving the country is a cause for concern, adding that Nigerian doctors abroad are underpriced, when compared to their counterparts from other countries.

While responding to their demands of increased hazard allowances, Dr Yemi-Esan, enjoined them to be reasonable. She enquired if the resident doctors, who are in public corporations are also doing hazardous work.

Insisting that government has done a lot for them, she cautioned that they be considerate in their demands, having in my dwindling government revenue and, most importantly, value addition to the polity.

Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Uche Ojinmah, commended the HoS for her reformative contributions in positively repositioning the Federal Civil Service for greater performance and national economic growth.
