-President Buhari fires NDDC administrator, Akwa with immediate effect

– Akwa was appointed December 2020

-Buhari appoints Audu-Ohwavborua as temporal head

– New management team and governing board of the NDDC constituted

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday approved the disengagement of Effiong Akwa from his position as Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

A statement made available to Nigerian Pilot on Thursday by Deworitshe Patricia, Director of Press in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, said Akwa’s disengagement takes effect from October 20.

In December 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari removed Kemebradikumo Pondei as acting managing director of the NDDC — appointing Akwa as the head of the agency.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has directed Engr Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, the most senior Director in the NDDC to take temporary charge of affairs pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director.

“Engr Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua (FNSE) will perform the duties of the Managing Director in acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director and members of the Governing Board,” a statement by Patricia Deworitshe, Director of Press, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs noted.

Furthermore, the Director of press disclosed that “President Buhari has also approved the constitution of a Management Team and Governing Board of the NDDC in line with Section 5(2) of the NDDC Act 2000.

“The names of the nominees for the new Management Team and Governing Board are to be transmitted to the National Assembly for approval,” the statement read.
