Professor Rahaman recommends books to Geoscientists, Miners, Investors in the Mining Sector, & hails Author

Professor Omar Rahaman has recommended the books “Health and Safety in the Mining Sector” (2021), and “Fundamentals for Exploring the Mining Sector” (2020) as assets to all Geoscientist, Miners and Investors the sector.

Speaking during a visit to the Author, Deinsam Dan Ogan, a Staff of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, MMSD, Rahaman called on all hands in the mining sector to study and acquire knowledge from the books.

He also hailed the author who he described as a treasure to the sector saying that, “I recommend the books “Health and Safety in the Mining Sector”, & “Fundamentals for Exploring the Mining Sector” to all Geoscientists and Investors in the sector”.

The recent past Honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah in his foreword to the Book, stated that; “the mining sector in Nigeria is evidently expanding and attracting new investors from all over the world, and because information is more and more crucial to the operations of the sector, this handy book comes at a pivotal moment to guide potential investors. In writing the “Fundamentals for Exploring the Mining Sector”, Deinsam Dan Ogan has filled a gap, by providing simple but quite essential knowledge to operators, especially regarding the laws guiding operations in the sector.”

Whereas the “Health and Safety in the Mining Sector”, is an excellent, practical handbook, in which the Director, Artisanal and Smallscale Mining (ASM) Department, MMSD in his foreword to the Book, stated that; “Ogan’s pocket handbook on Health and Safety in Mining will truly help in the practical enhancement of workers’ protection from health and safety hazards, as well as mitigate risks, in small-scale or un-mechanized open-pit mines.”

Deinsam Dan Ogan is a vibrant geologist and environmentalist who has gained his experience from serving in the mining and quarrying (MaQ) sector for over a decade in Nigeria – West Africa. He is also an affiliate researcher with some educational institutions in the United Kingdom, and has compiled this work from a few of his academic assignments.

He believes in simplifying what other authors would prefer to make complex. So, Deinsam writes with simple talking language that is easy to absorb, once it has been comprehended by the reader.

The author has worked both in the developing and under-developed countries and that exposure influences his easy to read style of explanations. He bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, from the University of Port Harcourt, a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from Coventry University, a Post Graduate Certificate on GIS in Environmental Management from Oxford University, a Post Graduate Certificate on Innovation in the Civil Service from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and other local and international certifications. He is a Pro Earth & Environs (PEE) Researcher and a freelance consultant.
