Federal Capital Territory Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has said that the Administration is ready and committed to focus more on the development of the vulnerables in the present economic realities.
This was made known to Journalists in a press release by the S.A Media to FCT Minister of State, Austine Elemue, on Thursday.
Aliyu gave this assurance at the graduation ceremony and presentation of start up tool to 100 beneficiaries of the 2022 women empowerment programme of the Nigerian Breweries Women Empowerment Programme held in Abuja.
The minister who was represented by the Director of Administration and Finance, Area Council Services Secretariat, Mrs. Omolola Olanipekun, also affirmed that the Administration would support the implementation of programmes and policies geared towards the development of the vulnerable in the Territory.
Aliyu stressed that guaranteeing the rights of vulnerable and giving them opportunities to reach their full potential was critical not only for attaining their goals, but also for meeting a wide range of societal challenges.
“In my candid opinion, empowered vulnerable contribute to the health and productivity of their families and communities, creating a ripple effect that benefits everyone, and it increases their sense of self-worth, their decision-making power, their access to opportunities and resources, their power and control over their own lives inside and outside the home, and their ability to effect change”, Aliyu noted.
While commending the Nigerian Breweries Women Empowerment for graduating 100 vulnerable women selected from hard-to-reach communities of Kabusa, Galadimawa, Kubwa, Karu, Lugbe and Kuje in various acquisition skills, she, however, noted that the empowerment would further optimise their business values and improve potential for jobs creation.
In her words; “your core objective on the need to provide for the vulnerable in the society will bring succor to the beneficiaries. It also gladens my heart to know that today’s event is targeted at the vulnerable women”.
In her remarks, the Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries PLC, Mrs. Sade Morgan, stated that the empowerment served as an opportunity to continue to give back to society in line with the corporate philosophy of winning with Nigeria since the commencement operation 76 years ago.
She revealed that the empowerment programme was taking place simultaneously in six locations in Lagos, Ogun, Abia, Enugu, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory, stressing that at the end of the day over 472 vulnerables have been empowered.
Morgan added that the beneficiaries have undergone a 12 week intensive skill acquisition training and business masterclass in skill areas such as: catering, hair/wig making, paste, craft making, interior decoration, make-up application and bead making
