Chairman, Media Committee of Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Barr. Chukwudi Ezeobika, has described as inconceivable the plot by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to zone its 2023 presidential slot to the North.
Ezeobika’s comment came in reaction to the decision of the PDP’s national convention planning committee to zone its national chairman position to the Southwest paving way for the presidential candidate slot to go to the North.
Though the committee is yet to officially announce the zone that will produce the PDP’s presidential candidate for 2023, the principle of zoning it espoused in 1999 and invariably engender in Nigeria’s political systems suggests that the president and the party’s national chairman shall not emerge from the same geopolitical zone.
Speaking to Nigerian Pilot in an exclusive interview, the learned legal practitioner posited that the principle of equity and justice demands that the zoning ought to be to the South East come 2023.
“While the decision by the PDP to zone National Chairmanship of the Party to the southwest may have been carefully thought out with eminently qualified individuals such as Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the rest who deserve a shot at such position, it remains reprehensible for any right-thinking Nigerian to support the continued marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria by depriving them of Presidency come 2023.
“Northern Nigeria, having enjoyed a greater percentage in the Leadership of the Nigerian State at the Federal level has indeed done more harm than good to the entity called Nigeria through poor decisions and conduct which completely undermined the standard of living of the Nigerian masses currently placing Nigeria as the worst economy in Africa and a safe haven for ISIS, ISWAP and Islamic extremists as well as fulani terrorists.
“It is indeed incumbent on all Political Parties in Nigeria to work for a fair and equitable society by ensuring that we have, come 2023, a President of Igbo extraction.
“This is the first step to take in correcting the injustices and sustained political aggressions as well as marginalization of the Igbos,” Barr. Ezeobika stressed.
Reacting to the statement credited to the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, that the North will continue to rule Nigeria, Ezeobika, who doubles as the National Chairman of United Patriots, UP, a fast fledgling political party in Nigeria, described the statement as “not only unfortunate but ridiculous and highly misplaced.”
He said, “With over 250 ethic Nationalities in Nigeria, it remains difficult for one to understand how a particular ethnic group could believe that others are inferior simply because they don’t share common religion, culture and or language.
“Saying that the North will continue to rule Nigeria simply means that the Nigerian State will continue to remain a failed State as the North has got nothing more to offer in terms of leadership and should henceforth distance themselves from power.”
On the issue of unabated killings, kidnappings and general insecurity in the country, the vibrant and visionary politician submitted that “there is no responsible government which values the lives of its citizens that will not take issues of security seriously.”
The United Patriots national chairman bemoaned the federal government for failing to prosecute the six Nigerian financiers of terrrorist group, Boko Haram listed by the government of United Arab Emirates, UAE.
The UAE had recently released the names of six Nigerian financiers of terrrorist group, Boko Haram which included Abdurrahaman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad, but according to Barr. Ezeobika, it remains disturbing and of great concern that these individuals have not been prosecuted and or brought to book by the Buhari led government many months after such exposition.
He maintained that the ineptitude of the Buhari led APC Government has made it extremely difficult to effectively tackle the menace of the terrorist fulani herdsmen and bandits especially in the northern part of the Country.
“While innocent Citizens are being slaughtered on a daily basis by these extremist fulani herdsmen across the States of the federation, the Presidential Pardons been granted to them by the federal government and Governors remain unjustifiable and most certainly unfortunate and irresponsible,” he averred.
