Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has reaffirmed commitment in providing and ensuring adequate welfare for its officers and men.

Comptroller General of the Service, Idris Jere Isah who made the affirmation during the commissioning of the Lagos State Command Office complex yesterday said that the project being delivered today was part of the infrastuructural renewal that was ongoing in NIS to make its services worldclass.

He stated that this will further boost the morale of its personnel to continue delivering excellent services to citizens as the edifice will henceforth serve as the nucleus of operational activities in Lagos Command.

He said that personnel must ustify the confidence reposed in them by effectively discharging their responsibilities warning that personnel must shun indolence, indiscipline and corruption.

The CG noted that this particular location had served as the Headquarters of NIS until 1990 when the Federal Government directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to move their base of operation to the Federal Capital Territory, “Thereafter, the office complex served as the Zonal Headquarters for Zone A, before same was relocated to Ikeja. I am therefore convinced that the story of NIS is incomplete without mentioning Alagbon close where the Service was birthed.

“Given the antecendence of this location in the history of NIS, the strategic relevance of Lagos in NIS operational duties as well as the socio-economic importance of Lagos, it is expected that the Lagos command should boast of a complex with a miniature resemblance of the Service Headquarters. Sadly, that has not been the case over the years.

“However, with the unveiling of this edifice today, I am delighted that the story has changed.”

He assured of effective, seamless service delivery and total commitment in serving the nation.
