A middle aged man, Idris Aminu has allegedly killed his stepmother, Salamotu Aminu, with a pestle after his attempt to poison her earlier failed.
According to eye witnesses, the incident took place on Saturday night while the victim was asleep in her room at Obeiba Ebozohu, Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The eye-witness account had it that Idris Aminu (the suspect) had attempted to kill the old woman with poison three days earlier but she survived the poison.
The eye-witness further said that even with the failed poison attempt, the desire of the suspect to snuff life out of Malama Salamotu Aminu did not abate.
He was said to have sneaked into the room with a pestle while the woman was asleep and bludgeoned her to death.
No one could actually tell newsmen possible reason why Aminu embarked on the dastardly act of the gruesome murder of a defenceless old woman in her sleep.
Confirming the incident, Williams Aya (SP), Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kogi State Command, said the suspect had been arrested for allegedly killing his stepmother with a pestle.
According to Aya, the lifeless body of Salamotu was discovered by her daughter in her room.
“Our men immediately mobilised to effect his arrest. He is currently in our custody while investigation is ongoing”, he added”, he said.
Aya said that the suspect who is still at Okehi Divisional Police Station would soon be handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation into the case.
