…It is not true, rather, they attacked us – Ajaka

By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja.

Convoy of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was allegedly blocked and attacked by persons believed to be supporters of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the forth coming November 11, Gubernatorial Election in the state.

Mr Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications,
in a statement he issued on Saturday in Lokoja, said the alleged attack took place at about 12.30 pm near the Naval Base at Banda, a few kilometres from Lokoja.

He said that the convoy of the governorship candidate, (popularly called Muri), “having sighted that of the Governor, blocked the road and some of his armed thugs started shooting sporadically at the convoy of the Governor.

“A Tundra branded with the logo of the SDP and with SDP flags also blocked the Governor’s vehicle and occupants of the SDP branded Tundra were armed with Rifles and short guns”, the Commissioner said.

He added that the attack was however, foiled as the Governor left the scene unscathed and in high spirit saying that there was no cause for panic.

Fanwo noted however that some security personnel and aides of the Governor sustained some degrees of injury and were rushed to medical facilities for medical attention.

The Commissioner urged the people of Kogi State to remain calm as “Security agents are in full control to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums behind the attack.”

He also assured that the State Government would ensure that law and order were maintained as the attackers were sure to be brought to justice.

He said that the Governor had warned that no APC member should involve in any reprisal attack as insecurity from any quarter would be met with stiff penalties.

In a swift reaction to the allegation, the SDP governorship candidate told our correspondent that it was not true that his convoy attacked that of the governor but rather, it was the governor’s convoy that attacked his.

Hello don’t mind them it is a lie they attacked us we discovered that they were behind us and the next thing we heard was sporadic shots.

We were from the Palace of Ohimege-Igu of Koton-Karfe. The crowd was much. As we left there on our way to Lokoja, the next thing we heard when we discovered that they were behind us were gunshots.

“I had to to call the governor’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) telling him that he should have let us know that the governor was behind us for us to clear away for him.

“One of my people was hit by a bullet and he is in the hospital but I am heading back to Abuja”, Muri said.
