Society for the Youth and the Downthroden, SOYD, has condemned the proposal of bullet proof cars and palliative programs for Principal Officers of the Parliamentary saying that this was coming at the time when Nigerians were going through irreparable hardship due to the removal of the fuel subsidy with no possible solution yet on sight to address the economy.

According to a press release issued yesterday by the President, SOYD, Comrade Ogwuche Gabriel, stated, “We have been keenly monitoring the steps of the newly inaugurated 10th National Assembly, especially the proposed bullet proof cars and palliative programs for principal officers and other members of the parliament respectively.

“This is coming at the time when Nigerians are going through irreparable hardship due to the removal of the fuel subsidy with no possible solution yet on sight to address the economy.

“However, we wish to express our hope and confidence that this anti- people’s proposal will no longer succeed since The Priest has step in.”

Ogwuche said, “Today, we are joyful that this self-styled initiative of the 10th National Assembly have attracted condemnation from His Excellency, Chief Femi Falana whose legal practice over the years is centred on humanity, selflessness and good governance.

“In 2014, we saw a strange drama at the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, after we submitted a petition from Falana&Falana Chambers against one of the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committees over alleged diversion of fund meant for our program.

“The Senate immediately on receipt of the petition, suspended plenary session and sent a delegation to promptly address the ugly development after several apologies. This development occur to us as great achievements even without getting the alleged sum. It gives us sense and encouragement to grow to where we are today.”

“Consequently, We urge the National Assembly to beware of people’s rebellion by desisting from diverting and wasting public fund in this government.

“Furthermore, it’s expected at this critical period that the legislators align themselves with the policy direction of the current administration in order to salvage this harsh economic condition and move the country forward,” he said.

He added, “As a group, we believe that the whole idea so far by the legislators is not in tandem with the interest of the nation and therefore, totally at variance with the program of the current administration under the watch of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander in Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
