The governorship candidate of the social democratic party, SDP, in the 2023 general elections, Senator Magnus has returned to the All progressives Congress, APC.
The ex- Senator representing Rivers South East said his coming back to the APC is to work together with other members of the party to ensure growth, inclusion, prosperity and progress for Rivers State and its people.
“If we all have the same mind, we will be a party to beat in Rivers state. I think that this is a new year and everybody who wants APC to move forward in Rivers State needs to realize that APC cannot be a personal estate of anybody”.
On how he will cope with the presence of the likes of former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers APC caretaker chairman, Tony Okocha and the Minister of the federal capital territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, if he eventually defects, Abe noted “we are all very strong characters. I have no problem with of those people: me, Amaechi, Wike, Okocha that is a walk over, but you will also agree that, if all of us must come together, there should not be any other force in Rivers State that can stop us.
“I believe that if we can find a common ground which we have all found in the APC, definitely there is a space for everybody. I am a founding member of this party. I am one of those who stake everything to bring APC to life in Rivers State and nobody can deny me that right within the party.
“That is what created problem the other time. If we all agreed that we have learnt our lessons and that Rivers State is more important than individual interest, the party is more important than any of us, I believe we can work together and we will move forward”, Abe believes.
Senator Abe also mentioned that he returns to the APC to contribute to the “great things” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is already doing in the country.
Reacting to the defection, the Care Taker Committee Chairman of the state chapter of APC, Chief Tony Okocha expressed satisfaction, noting that Abe had always been a strong member of the APC.
*We are very much aware our brother is one of us. The fact that governorship ambition and perhaps visionless leadership of past leaders took him to Social Democratic Party, we are happy to welcome him home”
