LP berates APC over increasing economic hardship

By Athan Agbakwuru, Owerri

Labour Party, LP, has blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the current economic hardship bedeviling Nigerians, saying the failure of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to offer good governance, his party promised, is suffocating the citizens.

National Chairman of LP, Barr Julius Abure made the assertion at the weekend while speaking during the Imo LP stakeholders meeting held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

According to him, the failure of the APC to judiciously use the power is the remote cause of the ‘unbearable increasing cost of food and other items’ hence strangulating the majority of helpless Nigerians.

His words, “APC has failed woefully to utilize the power of governance to better the life of Nigerians. What matters most is not how to win an election or capture power but what to do with the power after all.”

Commenting on the last presidential election, Abure stated that LP was a victim of fraudulent election in Nigeria and emphasized the need for the party to vigorously pursue necessary electoral reforms in Nigeria.

Concerning the coming governorship election in Edo State, the national chairman declared that LP will win the poll there pointing out that party members and stakeholders are already working hard to thwart plans of the ruling party to upturn the LP victory in the state.

He commended the Imo State Chairman of LP, the State Executive Council, SEC, and State Working Committee (SWC) for their doggedness, and enjoined them to continue to keep faith and stay together with the party to enable them tackles their numerous challenges

The national chairman assured the state chapter of the conduct of state congress, while charging both the elected members of the party and the stakeholders to have a round table discussion on what and how to go about it.

Speaking earlier, LP Governorship candidate in the last governorship election in the state, Sen. Athan Achonu described the Labour Party as the only solution to the nation’s problems and revealed the party’s decision to commence mass membership registration across all political wards in the state.

Achonu who announced that the sum of N27million have been provided for the planned registration exercise used the occasion to appreciate members and stakeholders of the party for their support to the party.

In his welcome speech, the state party chairman, Barr Calistus Ihejiagwa explained that the purpose of the meeting is to review the activities of the party with the view of repositioning it ahead of subsequent elections in the state.

He said that as a mass and grassroots-oriented political party with the best ideology, the party will soon take over power both in the state Imo and at the national level.

“LP won elections in the state but APC stole their mandate in connivance with the INEC and security agencies,” he added.
