*All 28 victims are members of 2 families in Katakpa Village

*As State Assembly wants military base set up in Toto LGA

Yet to be identified gunmen have caused havoc in Katakpa Village of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa state as they invaded the area killing 28 persons including the village head, Abdullahi Sadiq.

The attackers, who were said to be in large numbers, also injured dozens of others burning several houses and other valuables.

The incident was said to have prompted the State House of Assembly to call on state Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule to liaise with the federal government and the military to set up a military base in Toto Local Government Area of the State to avert future occurrence.

They also appeal to the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA and Federal Emergency Management Agency, FERMA to as a matter of urgency provide relief materials to the surviving victims of the attack as well as the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in the state.

A member of the state Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency through a motion raised the alarm over the killing of the village head others in his Constituency.

During yesterday’s sitting, the sponsor of the motion and other members appealed to the Speaker to support him at “this trying moment” by adopting the motion.
“Again, hoodlums came as early as 6 am to attack my people of Katakpa Community.

They burnt houses, destroyed properties, killing many people”, he lamented.

He therefore appealed to the government of the state to constitute a strong Committee to unravel the perpetrators of the act and also bring out permanent solutions over the devastating act.

Speaking further, he explained that some of the victims of attacks who sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries were receiving treatments at the General Hospital, Umaisha and Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

Meanwhile the State House of Assembly has urged Gov. Abdullahi Sule to liaise with the military in order to set up military base in Katakpa ward, Toto Local Government Area over consistent militia attacks in the area.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Danladi Jatau made the call under matters of urgent public importance brought by Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad (PDP- Umaisha/Ugya) during the House proceedings in Lafia.

The Speaker sympathized with the people of Katakpa ward and Toto Local Government Area over the loss of lives and properties as a result of militia attack in the area.

Speaker Jatau called on the people of the area to embrace peace and sheathe their swords at all times.
