Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule has said that efficient justice delivery in the state would drastically reduce congestion in correctional centers in the state.

He said this during a one day state multi-stakeholders “Access to Justice” town hall meeting organised by Public and Private Development Center PPDC, in Lafia the state capital.

The Governor, who was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Bar Labaran Magaji, appreciated the effort of the PPDC in providing administration of Justice in Nasarawa state.

He said that the state has witnessed tremendous development in this collaboration and enhancing technological application of Justice setting, arguing the Justice delayed leads to Justice denied

“These are things we have been seeing on Newspaper and screen elsewhere in the word and today we are witnessing it right here in the state, with the inception of the period of six months of PPDC projects in the state especially targeting the Karu, Mararaba axis we will certainly witness more improvement in the delivery of Justice”, he noted

He assured that owing to the activities of the PPDC, the state government is ever ready and willing to give them the platform and enablement to carry out their assignment and execute their projects for the benefit of humanity

Earlier, the Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Barge, who was impressed with the company said they have taken the state judicial system to the highest level in Nigeria, adding that technology has made it very easy for the judicial system in the state.

According to him it would enable everybody in the state to have access to Justice as it also reduces cost of transportation and quick dispensation of Justice.

He blamed Judges as saying, “today court Judges have lost their powers to manage those courts you have allow councils to steal your power, they manage the court for you and that is why you lost the power.”

“There are unnecessary adjournment occasion in the court, some of the adjournment are done to satisfy the layers, Today we have an improved system yet the courts are still congested beyond what we imagine because the manager are not doing the needful” he observed

He therefore advised Judges of various courts in the state to be serious with their work devoid of unnecessary distraction from lawyers urging speedy dispensation of Justice.

“If a lawyer has a case and he is not in the court for reason best knowing for him that should be the end of the case, judges should also try to be innovative, if those cases were hidden under some provision, do certain things that would bring improvement in the Justice system

“I also call on judges to create an enabling environment for bail conditions and a way of setting cases to allow for correctional facilities to lessen its population” he maintained.
