Edo State chapter of Labour Party has faulted the state government claim on Security Network Situation Room at John Odigie-Oyegun Public Academy, adding that such huge sum of money claimed by Governor Obaseki to have been invested on Situation Room monitoring every activities in the Benin metropolis only exist in paper.

Comrade Sam Uroupa, the State Publicity Secretary (SPS) and image marker of Labour Party stated this in a release made available to Nigerian Pilot and signed by him in Benin City, Edo State capital.

According to Comrade Uroupa, “The recent ugly situation that led to the kidnap of Edo PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi should be attributed to lack of good security network in the state which the Governor claimed he invested so much into whereas such only exists on paper.”

“Upon such huge sum of money on security network by Governor Obaseki, the ruling party Chairman in the state, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi was kidnapped here in Benin City, a City Governor Obaseki claimed that anything that happened across Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, Egor and part of Ovia North-East local governments area of Edo South Senatorial District is being monitored at the Edo State Security Network Situation Room situated at John Odigie-Oyegun Public Academy, whereas the reverse is the case”, he noted.

He said, in spite of the acclaimed security network and alleged empowerment of vigilante network only used for election thuggery and intimidation of voters, lives and properties in the state are not safe.

Uroupa further said, the manner in which the state PDP Chairman was kidnapped is an attestation that Edo State is seriously lacking in the area of security and government that ought to protect the lives and properties of her citizenry is not doing enough to curtail criminal activities in the state.

“This kidnap is one kidnap too many in the State which signposts an overt reminder and wake up call on Governor Obaseki’s led administration in the state that all is not well in terms of securing the State which is the primary responsibility of government.

“The failure of the PDP led government in the state has been exposed once again and thus appeals to Edo people not to entrust their lives into such a party anymore. The safety and wellbeing of the complete family (father, mother and child) is our concern in the Labour party.

“Labour Party therefore appeals to the abductors, to release the PDP Chairman Dr. Tony Azegbemi to be united back to his family unhurt as we equally call on the security agencies in the state to swing into action and leave no stone unturned in the quest to ensuring his release”, the statement added.
