The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Anambra state chapter has kicked off a massive membership drive in all the 326 wards in the state aimed at getting enough electorates for the forthcoming November 6, governorship election in the state.

Addressing pressmen at the party headquarters yesterday in Awka, the state PDP Chairman, Hon Ndubisi Nwobu said the registration exercise is targeted at getting 163,000 new members in addition to old party members in readiness for the governorship election in the state.

He said the exercise was not a national issue, but in preparation for the state governorship election in the state, adding that the local government chairmen would sensitize the electorates and win support for the PDP to emerge victorious in the election.

“We want to ensure people are registered in addition to old members, and to register at least 500 members in each of the 326 wards in the state. We are sensitizing our people to be members of the PDP.

“We implore people to come out and register with PDP, join in the massive campaign and work towards the development of Anambra.

“The local government chairmen will ensure that the membership cards get to the wards and major urban centres.” He said.

The Chairman further warned that there should be no basis to deny any one who wants to register as a PDP member.

He disclosed that local government monitoring team and zonal monitoring committee have been set up to ensure compliance in the exercise and make it a success.

He said that strategies to employ include placing jingles in radio/Tv stations, use of town criers to sensitize people among others in the exercise which begins from Tuesday next week and lasts for seven days.

Nwobu said that PDP does not give out money to influence the electorates like other political parties in the state, insisting that only PDP government would bring needed social, political and economic transformation in the state.

He criticized the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance for the backward and non-infrastructural development in the state, while the All Progressives Congress has deceived the masses with its change mantra characterized by nepotism, insecurity, social disharmony and sufferings among the citizens of Nigeria.

The highlight of the event was handing over the PDP membership registration cards by Nwobu to the 21 local government chairmen for the exercise in their respective wards.
