One of the leading aspirants for the Anambra governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Uche  Ekwunife, has counted her out of any arrangement to pick a consensus candidate.
Fielding questions from journalists at the PDP national secretariat after submitting her nomination forms, Senator Ekwunife it is already too late in the day when several high-profile aspirants like herself have gone far in their campaign.
Ekwunife similarly ruled out the possibility of dumping the PDP should she fail to emerge as the governorship candidate of the party.
The Senator representing the Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly stated that she is very strong politically and has the support of critical stakeholders in Anambra state.
Accompanied by a crowd of supporters, Senator Ekwunife, who was also a former member of the House of Representatives, further pledged to ensure a very good security system for the people of the state if voted the next governor.
Her words, “I don’t see how a consensus arrangement will play out now considering the galaxy of men and a woman in the race.
“I am running to win, so I don’t see how the consensus arrangement will work. It is a bit late, it should have come before now,” she added.
The federal lawmaker promised to reform the security architecture in the state if elected governor.
Ekwunife expressed the firm conviction that she would defeat other contestants to clinch the ticket, insisting that talks of a consensus candidate are belated.
She added, “Security is the primary responsibility of every government as enshrined in the 1999 constitution as altered. Any government that fails to provide sufficient security for it’s citizens to some extent should have a rethink.
“If elected governor, I will reform the security architecture. I will partner with the security agencies to make sure they are equipped with sophisticated weapons.
“Am a sitting senator of PDP and my tenure will be coming to an end in 2023. So, if I don’t get the party’s ticket, am not defecting to anywhere. But am very optimistic and also believe that I will get the ticket to run for the governorship.
Ekwunife was the first governorship aspirant to pick the PDP’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the Anambra governorship election.
