…says NNPC insolvency will lead to chaos
Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed on Thursday in Abuja has attributed the near-collapse of the Nigerian economy to the cluelessness and lack of capacity of the All Progressives Congress, APC administration.
Fielding questions from journalists after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emergency National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting the governor also raised the alarm that failure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC to fund the federation account because of payment of fuel subsidy will lead to chaos.
He declared that there is now a blame game even between members of the APC over the mismanagement of the economy.
“You have just heard that the NNPC said that they will not be able to give money, I don’t know the amount of chaos that would cause, because most of the states are depending on federation account.
“Because of cluelessness and lack of capacity to manage the economy, we have found ourselves on this; there is even a blame game between the members of the party within the APC.
“So, I think we are not going to be arrogant. We knew the mistakes we committed before and we have taken steps to correct them. We are presenting to Nigerians the better framework, better platform for them to really actualise their aspirations.”
Governor Bala Mohammed said Nigerians must come together to address the myriad of problems confronting the nation.
“The time now is to come together. We need to unify the country. There are a lot of disparaging forces, the insecurity is too much, the mismanagement of the economy is too much and if poverty is added to it, I don’t know what will become of Nigeria.”
On the issue of insecurity, Governor Mohammed declared that the federal security architecture has failed and it is imperative for the federal government to work in tandem with state governors, local government councils and other stakeholders to tackle the challenge.
“He (President Buhari) has to work with the governors, states and local government. The federal security architecture has failed. I have said it before, he has to work with the governors, he has to work with the local government Chairmen, he has to work with the traditional institutions, and he has to work with the civil society.
“We need information. We are just living in darkness, it appears that nobody is in charge and somebody has to be in charge and we have to come together to help the federal government discharge it’s exclusive responsibility of providing safety and security”, he said.
