RULING All Progressives Congress, APC has won the senatorial bye-election held in Imo North (Okigwe- Zone), but without the name of a candidate returned as winner of the weekend poll.

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in a strange twist of events when announcing the results of the election, declared APC winner but remained silent on who is the candidate of the party returned as the winner between Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Sir Frank Ibezim – both APC candidates in the exercise.

Announcing the final results of the election, the election returning officer, Hakeem Adikum, said, “I hereby return the All Progressive Congress as the winner of the bye-election held in Imo North on Saturday, December 5.”

He stated that APC won in five out of six local governments in the senatorial district namely Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, and Ihitte Uboma LGAs, while the PDP won in one local government area, Obowo.

 

Official results announced by INEC showed that APC polled a total of 36, 811 votes, while the PDP scored 31,903 votes.

 

The result released further showed thus: Ehime Mbano-APC 7229, PDP 5727; Isiala Mbano-APC 6,148, PDP 3755; Ihitte Uboma-APC 6809. PDP 5504; Onuimo-APC 5540. PDP 4475: Obowo-APC 3,859.PDP 6,515 and Okigwe-
APC 7,185,  PDP 5,220.
