The Nigerian Army has appointed Brigadier General MM Yerima as its new spokesperson.
Brigadier General Yerima replaces the former Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Sagir Musa who served in that capacity for two years.
Yerima’s appointments are amongst the early shake-up approved by the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, as part of the ongoing reorganization in the Army.
The new Army Spokesperson is a graduate of political science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Brigadier General Yerima enrolled in the Nigerian Army in October 1989 and commissioned into the corps of Army Public Relations.
Before his new appointment, he served in various military formations.
These include ADC to Commander TRADOC, Major General Ishola William between 1990-1993.
Public Relations Officer NAOWA in the Office of Chief of Army Staff 1994, and Spokesperson 81 Division of the Nigerian Army 1995-1996.
Yerima also served as PRO Nigerian Defence Academy 1996-2000, as well as Military Spokesperson United Nation Mission in Siera Leone 2000-2002.
He was PRO to Chief of Army Staff in 2003, PRO Chief of Defence Staff in 2005, and Deputy Director Public Relation 1 Division of Nigerian Army in 2008.
He also served as Chief of Staff and Coordinator at Directorate of Army Public Relations between 2007 and 2009.
Brigadier General Yerima served as Director Defence Information between 2009 and 2013 and Deputy Director Production at TRADOC Minna between 2013 and 2017.
The new Army Spokesperson was a participant at Senior Strategic Media Operation programme at Reach Cambridge and at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Ghana.
Yerima equally attended Senior Leadership Course at the Sheringham United Kingdom and undertook a US-Embassy funded Media tour of Africom in Studgarf Germany.
Brigadier Yerima was Deputy Director Reserve Defence Headquarters before his current appointment.
He belongs to the following professional associations, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and African Public Relations Association (APRA).
He is a Fellow of West Africa Society for Administration and Communication.
