FEDERAL Capital Territory, FCT, Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola has hinted that policies and programmes would be put in place to avoid poaching of athletes ahead of Asaba 2022. Adesola told athletes and officials that represented FCT at the just concluded National Sports Festival that the FCT administration is not happy that poached athletes from FCT won gold medals for other states. He said the FCT administration was satisfied with the achievement of the contingents despite finishing 12 on the final medals table.
“I want to assure the athletes that both the honourable minister and minister of states appreciate what our athletes have done, and we will make recommendations to them in order to retain our athletes, and we believed this will translate to better performance during the 21st edition in Asaba, Delta State. According to Adesola, “Most of the states are benefiting from our athlete, what we do to retain our athlete will also look into, so we will look to expand the numbers of games and athlete in future.
A look at the number of athletes that represented FCT is not up to the number of medals won by a state. In all, but our athletes have done well. ‘’We have learnt many lessons from our participation in Edo 2020 sports festival. We will take these lessons back home and sit down to see how we can strengthen our capacity and how we can broaden our net in order to increase our position.
