President-elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has picked Nigerian-born Adewale Adeyemo as Deputy Treasury Secretary.

Adeyemo would serve under former Federal Reserve chairperson, Janet Yellen, who is expected to lead the US treasury department.

Adeyemo, born in 1981, is among the three people of color to be on Biden’s economic team, while the two others are Cecilia Rouse and Neera Tanden.

Tanden, an Indian American, President of the Centre for American Progress and a senior policy adviser to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns, will be named Director, Office of Management and Budget.

Rouse, an African American economist at Princeton University, has been selected to lead the Council of Economic Advisers.

Adeyemo was a senior international economic adviser during the Obama administration and the first president of the Obama Foundation.

In 2015, he was appointed deputy national security adviser for International Economics and deputy director of the National Economic Council.

He served as the director of African American Outreach for John Kerry’s 2004 Presidential Campaign.
