Bayelsa State Government has restated its commitment to encouraging indigenous entrepreneurs, particularly youths who are ready to harness their potentialities.
The state Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, stated this while speaking with newsmen after inspecting a battery-powered generator being developed by some youths at Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who expressed delight and excitement at the scientific innovation, saluted the creativity of the youth and promised to give them the necessary support.
His words, “What we have seen here today further confirms that, Bayelsa is blessed with so many talented youths. As a government, we are ready to give the necessary support to those of them who are serious about developing themselves.
“We will encourage them. I have just shown our preparedness by placing the youths behind this creative work on a monthly salary from my office so that they will not be distracted by other activities.
“I’ve also told them to tell us the cost for them to improve on it, so that they can have an alternator that can charge the battery. What they have done is a green generator in the sense that, you don’t need fossil fuel, oil and even plugs.
“It is a commendable effort. I will bring it to the Governor’s attention and the government will give it the necessary push to tidy up the grey areas and then start commercial production.
“What they have done so far shows that with the battery, you can start the generator and it generates power. But the problem is that the battery will run down over time as it is being consumed.
“So, I have charged them to come up with the alternator technology, and they have assured me they can do it. What is happening here in Ofoni is a clear demonstration that there are youths in Bayelsa who are ready to do the right things.”
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Mr Peter Pleasure, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for the kind gesture, adding that the project was borne out of their burning passion to become famous for producing a home-grown power generating plant.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo has described 2020 as a remarkable and unforgettable year in which God restored the stolen victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo made the remark at the grand finale of a 3-day interdenominational prayer programme tagged “Solemn Assembly” at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Centre in Ofoni Community.
He maintained that despite the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus and its attendant fatalities and untold hardship last year, there was need for the Ofoni people to appreciate God for His manifold blessings on the community.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo described his emergence as the Deputy Governor as a divine arrangement, stressing that God has always been gracious in seeing him through all battles of his life.
In his exhortation titled ” Unity is Power”, the Leader of Deliverance Ministry, St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Olodi-Apapa, Evangelist Andrew Oteri, called on the people of Ofoni Community and Bayelsa State, in general, to be united to attract development.
Evangelist Oteri who anchored his message on Matthew 18 verse 14, pointed out that unity which springs from the heart brings about the oneness of purpose that enables a people to surmount any obstacle.
He also enjoined the Bayelsa people to “do the right things rather than claim rights” as well as cooperate with the Senator Douye Diri-led administration to enjoy sustainable peace and prosperity.
Also Speaking, Pastor Ejobe Isaac of All Nations Covenant Bible Church, explained that the Solemn Assembly is an annual prayer meeting some years ago to promote Christian growth and attract divine blessings on the land and people of Ofoni Community.
The event, which featured intercessory prayers and thanksgiving, had in attendance the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Solomon Agwuananagha, Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor’s Office, Barrister Alex Dumbo, the Special Adviser on Religious Matters, Rev Godspower Asingba, the Amananaowei of Ofoni, Chief Onakpohor Auditor
