Long time avowed critics of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode has officially joined the ruling party, Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello has confirmed.
The former aviation minister was known for his chronic criticism of the APC and its leadership, including President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he called many unprintable names.
Recall that Nigerian media space, especially social media, around the late evening of Monday, February 8, 2021, was agog with the photos and news of APC National Chairman, Mai Mala Buni and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in the company of Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, a notable leader of the Peoples Democratic Party with speculation that Mr. Fani-Kayode was on his way to joining the APC.
Confirming Fani-Kayode’s defection Wednesday, Chairman APC Women, Youths and Persons with Disability Mobilization committee for the nationwide membership registration and revalidation, Gov.Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, said Fani-Kayode has joined the APC in good faith.
“He has seen light. Chief Fani-Kayode has joined us,” Yahaya Bello stated.
This came less than 48 hours after APC chieftain and Director-General of Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, Dr. Salihu Lukman, condemned party leadership for meeting with the former minister while stressing that associating with him is “rewarding scandalous behaviour.”
Recalling how Mr. Fani-Kayode has fabricated stories, distorted, insulted and damaged information about the party and it’s leaders, the PGF boss stressed that elementary rule of decency would require some good distance between “our leaders and such a person.”
Lukman said, “On no account should anyone with the kind of baggage of Mr. Fani-Kayode be invited to join the party without clearance from a statutory structure of the party. In this particular instance, the National Caucus should be the clearinghouse.”
He expressed optimism that President Buhari would not approve Fani-Kayode‘s request to join the party.
Nigerian Pilot, however, gathered the former aviation minister may be received by the national caretaker committee of the party at the national secretariat any moment from now.
