Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, has disowned a letter of appointment circulating on social media that was allegedly issued to Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the letter, Ahmad has been appointed as “Manager/Supervisor of the National Production Monitoring System under the Downstream Monitoring and Regulatory Department on GL 05, S1 on Contributory Pension Scheme in line with the Pension Reforms Act 2004 as (amended) 2014”.
It added that the appointment which will last for three months, will see Ahmad earn N437,000.000 as basic salary, and his appointment would be confirmed after a satisfactory probation period of 12 months.
IMGReacting to the purported letter, the DPR, however, dismissed the letter as fake and said it was the handiwork of mischief-makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.
“The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) attention has been drawn to a fake letter of appointment circulating on social media purportedly issued to one Bashir Ahmad.
“This is the handiwork of some mischief-makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.
“We hereby advise members of the public to disregard the purported letter in its entirety as it is not from DPR.
“We wish to reiterate that employment into the Department is carried out in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service in line with due process,” the statement signed by Head, Public Affairs of the DPR, Paul Osu read.
Meanwhile, Ahmad himself had earlier dismissed the report by an online medium which alleged that he had been appointed by the DPR, stating that: “A friend sent me a link to a concocted story from an online news blog that the President has quietly appointed me as a manager of the DPR, a department of Ministry of Petroleum Resources, for those who want to know the truth, the story is 100% FALSE. I am not a staff of the DPR”.
