(Minister of State for Health)

Dr. Adeleke Olurunnimbe Mamora was born on 16th February, 1953 in
Lagos state, Nigeria. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Mamora,
both of who were educationists.

He attended Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ogun State before proceeding to
University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Osun state where he obtained a B.Sc,
Health Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
Mamora worked as Medical Director of a Medical Centre and a Company
Medical Adviser in 1987 – 1998 and 1988 – 1992 respectively.
Mamora came from a family that is politically very active. His father,
apart from being an educationist, was also a politician. He was a
leader of the Action Group and was also involved in political
activities in his local community. His father usually hosts most of
these activities in their compound in Ijebu-Ife, and gradually, Mamora
began to develop passion for politics.
Dr Mamora served both as the house prefect and deputy head boy in his
secondary school – Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ogun State.
While at the university Mamora was elected the financial secretary of
the student union executive during his stay on campus.
Political career started in 1998, where he was appointed the Secretary
Lagos East of the then United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).
He was a member of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC)
and was a National Delegate of the party in 1990.
On 2nd June, 1999, Adeleke Mamora was elected to the 4th Lagos State
House of Assembly and also doubled as the Speaker of the House. While
still serving at the state assembly, he was appointed as the Chairman
of the Conference of Speakers in between the year 2000 – 2001.
He was elected to the Senate in April 2003 under the platform of the
then Action Congress (AC). He was also appointed the Chairman of the
Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and public petition same year.
He again served as one of the members of the Economic Community of
West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament in between 2003-2006.
Upon the expiration of his tenure in 2007, Mamora was reelected
Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Lagos East
constituency of Lagos State, and he served there till 6th June, 2011.
Part of his achievements then was sponsoring of bills on Tenure of
Office, Surgeon-General of Nigeria, as well as the annulment and
amelioration of the Tobacco Control Act. He also
sponsored/co-sponsored myriads of motions during his tenure, and this
includes the amelioration of Senate rule 111 in order to align it with
the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Due to his
vibrancy and charisma, he was regarded as a master of parliamentary
Mamora was also appointed to committees on Upstream Petroleum
Resources, Selection Committee, Health, and Federal Character &
Inter-Government Affairs while serving as a senator of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria in 2007.
In 2015, Mamora served as the Deputy Director-General of the Muhammadu
Buhari Campaign Organisation.
On 24th September 2018, Adeleke Mamora was announced the Managing
Director of the National Inland Waterways Agency (NIWA). He is still
the Managing Director of the agency as of the time he was made the
Minister of State for Health.
Senator Mamora is happily married to Olanlesi Mamora, an indigene of
Ikare, Ondo State and a trained economist. The couple is blessed with
three children.
His hobbies include reading, listening to music and chanting hymnals
