Dr. Theodore Okwurunicheta Ejikemuwa Ashigwuike Ekechi was born in Sapele, in present-day Delta State to the late Okenze Tobias Ukachukwu Ekechi and his survived wife, Lolo Beatrice Nwaogbo of Umuoye, Imerienwe in Ngor Okpala LGA,  Imo State. Fondly called TOE or T.O.E. by friends, associates, and admirers, Dr. Ekechi was mostly brought up in Lagos.

TOE began his pursuit in education at Pioneer Primary School in Imerienwe. He later enrolled into the United Christian Secondary School, Apapa, Lagos where he graduated with Grade 1 (Distinction) firstly in General Certificate of Education, GCE, as an external
candidate while still in Class 4. Despite his exceptional brilliant performance in GCE, he was compelled by the school authority to complete the final program (Class 5) and sit for the WASCE. Again, he repeated the rare feat with a Grade 1 (Distinction) in 1981 and emerged as the best graduating student of the college (Aggregate 7). The same year, 1981, Dr. Ekechi gained admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, to read Marketing and graduated with B.Sc Hons., 2nd Class Upper Division, Marketing in
1985 and a Master of Business Administration (Marketing) in 1988 as the best graduating student in the faculty.

Dr. Ekechi holds a Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, England since 1990 and was inducted Fellow of the Chartered National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, 2003, Fellow of the National Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria as well as Fellow, National Institute for Education and Research (New Delhi).

An Author, Publisher, and visible contributor to the national debate, he has to his credit several articles/publications. In 2010 his writings and publications earned him special recognition by the University of Berkley, Michigan, the USA which honored him with a Doctor of Literature Degree, Honoris Causa. Today, Dr. Ekechi also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Strategic Management and Leadership from the Benjamin Franklin School of Economics and Business of the University of America at California.

In the business world, he incorporated TOE & Associates while on national youth service and is currently the Lead Consultant of TOE and Associates Limited, TOE Marketing and Media Limited, Allianz Media Limited, Alternative Electrics Limited, and Sunrise Integrated Media Services Limited publishers SunriseNigeria Newspapers.

In 2010, Dr. T.O.E. Ekechi was appointed Special Adviser and Chief of Staff to the then Minister of Interior. Between 2013 and 2014 Dr. Ekechi served as Commissioner for Information and Strategy, in Imo State. Dr. Ekechi was also Director, Election Planning And Monitoring, for the 2015 All Progressives Congress, APC  Presidential Campaign.

Since 2019, Dr. Ekechi has been on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, as a Member representing the southeast geopolitical zone and has been the Chairman of the Commission’s statutory North East Stabilization and Development Master Plan as well as members of some important committees. He is also nominated to the Board of Trustees of the North East Education Endowment Fund which promotes and drives scholarship and vocation in the educationally disadvantaged region. He was once the National Coordinator/Co-founder, DRIVCON (Driving Corruption out of Nigeria. He was President of the elite Mezie Owerri between 2003 and 2006 and a member of many clubs too numerous to mention.


A Distinguished Alumnus Awardee of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2012, Dr. Ekechi is the recipient of many community awards.


Dr. Ekechi in all is an accomplished intellectual, writer, a consummate entrepreneur, socio-political activist, and a respectable statesman. He is happily married to Ngozi Benedicta Tata (nee Anowi) and the marriage is blessed with their four children.
