The face of Bayelsa 2021, Miss Blessing Agara has urged women to provide support and care for teenage girls on the street irrespective of their background.
This is contained in her message to women to mark International Women’s Day.
Miss Agara who is concerned with the rising level of teenage pregnancy and school drop out amongst girls expressed worry that if nothing is done, criminality will be on the increase.
The Yenagoa-based fashion and photo model is of the opinion that women that occupy positions within government and outside of government should rise to the occasion and reverse the ugly trend.
She emphasized that more women in positions should provide support for these girls through scholarships, grants and mentorship programs that will help to cushion the effect of school drop out in society.
Agara, who is also a fashion designer recalls her experience in doing business with low or no patronage from women in position.
She argued that if the girl child today will strive to greater heights, women should serve as role models and open their doors for teenage girls to provide grants and incentives for them to pursue their dreams.
The beauty model pleaded with women to rewrite the wrongs in society and be more accessible to the teenager rather than condemning their negative actions.
