Controller of Corrections, Federal Capital Territory, FCT command Abdul-Rahman Maiyaki, has flagged off a 5-day intensive training of court orderlies and record clerks at the command hall in Gwagwalada, Abuja, to ease decongestion at facilities within the FCT.
In a statement issued by Chukwuedo Humphrey, the Command Public Relations Officer, today, he stated that this is the first set of 28 officers that will be posted to all courts within the FCT.
According to the Controller, these corps of officers will be responsible for curbing congestion in the Command’s facilities by ensuring that communication between the courts and the custodial centers are not breached.
The training which draws resource persons from the FCT high court, the NBA as well as veteran correctional officers, was geared towards enriching the knowledge base of the correctional service officers in the documentation and reporting of court processes and discrepancies that may hinder the smooth dispensation of justice.
Maiyaki, in the statement, maintained that the training was is in line with the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional service, Ahmed Ja’afaru’s goal of building synergy and ensuring sustained decongestion of the custodial centers.
The Controller further encouraged the staff to be good ambassadors of the service and shun all forms of irregularities that may arise upon the discharge of their duties.
