Federal Fire Service, FFS, Controller General, Dr. Liman Alhaji Ibrahim has called on all citizens to imbibe the culture of safety during this Yuletide which coincides with the harmattan season.

In a statement issued by SF Ugo Huan, the Service Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the CG today, noted that while the harmattan season is a season that records a high number of fire incidences due to dry wind and activities which could result to quick ignition, urged all citizens to be extremely careful and put in place precautionary measures most especially during this period of celebration that a lot of activities such as cooking, fireworks, travels, amongst other things will be carried out.

The CG emphasized that fire safety is everybody’s responsibility, therefore, enjoined citizens to take responsibility in avoiding anything that could put their lives, property, and that of others around them at risk of fire.

He, therefore, admonished the general public to take very seriously,  all the fire safety messages that were sent out by the men of the Service during the massive public sensitization on fire safety in all the commands at the commencement of the harmattan season this year.

The CG in the statement warned that as citizens go for holidays, all electrical appliances in offices and places of business should be disconnected to avoid fire incidences while on holiday.

Adding that generators and gas cylinders must be kept outside homes and children should be carefully monitored and not allowed to play with matches/ lighters and cooking must not be left unattended.

Dr Liman Ibrahim appealed to everyone to put in place fire prevention and suppression equipment such as smoke detectors and fire alarms while having at least one fire extinguisher in various homes and cars.
