The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Zubairu Dada has condemned in strong terms the abduction of some students and their teachers by bandits at the Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.
He expressed shock and sadness over the ugly developments, adding that, “I condemn in totality any act of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry”.
Special Assistant, Media to Minister of State, Mr Ibrahim Aliyu in a statement said that Ambassador Dada noted that the bad news came just a few days after bandits stopped a moving Niger State Transport Authority, (NSTA) bus and took away the passengers onboard.
The Minister, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his timely intervention by directing the Armed Forces and Police, to ensure the immediate and safe return of all the captives.
He said the timely dispatch of a team of security chiefs to Minna, Niger State to coordinate the rescue operation and meet with state officials, community leaders, as well as parents and staff of the College by the President is commendable.
Ambassador Dada also thanked the Niger State Government for closing down all boarding schools in the four local government mostly affected by the activities of bandits, namely; Mariga, Munya, Rafi and Shiroro Local Government Areas.
While joining the families of the victims of these attacks to pray for the safe return of their loved ones, the Minister also prayed to God to bring to an end all acts of terrorism and other crimes across the country.
