…Urges Senate to confirm the nominee
An anti-graft advocacy group, Transparency Center Network has commended the Buhari administration for the nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa, “a dynamic operative and core professional” as the new EFCC Chairman.
Reacting to the nomination of Bawa by President Muhammadu, the Transparency Center Network National President, Mallam Musa Abdullahi, said the appointment is a morale booster to the core personnel of the EFCC.
According to the group, the nomination of Bawa as the chairman of the commission is a new beginning for the anti-graft body.
“The record speaks loudly for Bawa in the fight against money laundering, internet fraud, financial crimes and other sundry offences, it stated.
“His nomination is a positive signal for the good things as there will be no hiding place for treasury looters anymore”
The group expressed confidence that the incoming Chairman will ensure greater transparency in the day-to-day affairs of the Commission.
“He is a disciplinarian that is going to be very strict with operatives of the Commission to achieve service delivery and productivity.”
A new development expected to send back policemen attached to the Commission to their core operational base.
“Over the years, policemen assigned on duties to the Commission that have been found wanting never got punished for the misdemeanours committed but only ended up going back to the police formations without being punished.
“We urge the Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to speedily confirm the nominee to enable him to commence the process of sanitization of the EFCC and return it to her enviable height of winning the fight against corruption as witnessed during the Ribadu era.”
“The Senators should be compatible with the overall interest of the Nigerian people. We urged them to bear in mind that the nominee is going to provide the needed leadership to the Commission that is going to usher in the real fight against corruption capable of impacting positively on the masses.”
The group also advised the Nigerian people to take ownership of the fight against graft and the need for collective participation, involvement and representative of the Nigerian nation.
