A Non Governmental Organization under the aegis of Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has appealed to African Union (AU), to support the reconstruction of Libya, urging the continental body not to continue to play passive role in the war torn country as such would not be in the best interests of the continent.

It also noted that the responsibility of permanently resolving the Libyan crisis and getting the country back on its feat cannot be left to the United Nations alone.

Executive Director of the organization Mr Abdulrazaq Hamzat made this appeal in a statement in Ilorin.

He applauded the ceasefire agreement between the two factional Governments in Libya, describing it as the beginning of peace effort in the North African country.

He also urged the two factional Governments to work out their country’s harmonization and never return to the era of violent confrontation.

According to the statement, “With the latest ceasefire agreement between the conflicting parties, a decade of violence in Libya is halted, giving the country an opportunity to make peace and begin the process of reconstruction and transformation”.

Hamzat added that, “We welcome the ceasefire agreement facilitated by the United Nations and we urge the African Union to play a more active role in the reconstruction process”.

He further called on all Libyans to bury their bitterness and forgive each other.
