Imam Abubakar Ayinla, the incumbent Provost, Kwara State College of Nursing & Midwifery, Ilorin is in his early 60s hails from Ilorin Emirate of the state. His Journey into Nursing as a career started in 1981 after his secondary school education in Ilorin Grammar School, IGS.

The Provost parades intimidating curriculum vitae that convince any doubting Thomas, that he can do the humanitarian job holistically. Between 1981 and 2011, Ayinla had robust and vibrant training in all sectors of nursing education and profession with sound academic exposure having attended many other courses within and outside the country.

Trained at home and aboard in the best tradition, the Provost before his present status worked in several Medical/Nursing departments and establishments and held very important positions of authority in his career spanning 33 years of immaculate service years with precision.

A product of the premier university – University of Ibadan and had training programs at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan with professional qualifications and diplomas.

Among his professional qualifications are: Fellowship of West Africa College of Nursing 2015, Diploma in Nursing Education 1990, Diploma in General Nursing 1984 with scholarships and prizes won, appointment as a resource person for West Africa College of Nursing, Nigeria Chapter, same as for Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the meritorious award for the best student with Leadership Trait by the National Association of Kwara State Students, University of Ibadan Branch 1998, Nursing and Midwifery council examiner 1991, UCH Director of Medical Studies’ Prize for the Best Student with Leadership Style 1990 and Course Leader of Nurse Tutors (FTCTHS) UCH, Ibadan, 1988-1990.

On April 30, 2018, Ayinla resumed in the Kwara State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Ilorin as Provost, and has been performing his duties creditably and excellently. Since then, the college community has been experiencing peace, which is the panacea for development anywhere in the world. He has stabilized the learning environment being a familiar terrain, he is forging ahead unrelenting with his resourceful management team with policies thrust that is people-friendly and sustainable to improve the college environment for good by maintaining its standard and well-positioned to deliver on its mandate.

He is a member of notable professional bodies in Nigeria and overseas, including the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives; West African College of Nursing (FAME), Nigeria Chapter; Vice Chairman, Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, 2016 till date, and Secretary, Nigerian Nurse Educator 2011 till date.

The Provost is a well-traveled Nigerian and compassionate family man with manifest devotion to families and friends. He is a news and homemaker, sports lover with a penchant for dressing well without a color riot. He is a jolly good fellow, whose life story is a lesson on how determination, competitive intelligence, hard work, truthfulness, and enviable character can make one triumph over any kind of limitation in life.

“My advice to upcoming professional nurses/ midwives is to be focused, determined, disciplined, believe in themselves, persevere because nothing good comes easy and above all, put God first and allow Him to direct their path,” he once said in an interview.

Ayinla is a diehard nurse educator/administrator, who has created practical possibilities and opened new frontiers. He has also expanded opportunities and advanced the course of human kindness in all facets of human endeavor. He’s a positive example to the world, indeed.
